   The Unit started in 1997. It is involved with  the management of normal as well high risk obstetrical patients through out their pregnancy and during the immediate postpartum period.


 High-risk Obstetrical patients:

  • Maternal medical conditions that existed before or first appeared during pregnancy, such as hypertensive disorders, gestational diabetes, thrombophilia, hemorrhagic disorders, haemolytic anemias etc.
  • Women with multiple gestation
  • Pregnancies complicated with fetal conditions such as  IUGR ( intrauterine growth restriction), fetal anemia and hemolysis, intrauterine infections
  • Pregnancies complicated by preterm labor or preterm rupture of membranes
  •  Pregnancies with abnormal placentation ( placenta previa, abruption placenta etc).

Patients iare treated according to specific protocols in compliance with the published guidelines from the Royal College of Obtetricians and Gynecologists.
